I am really awful at saving money. As soon as it hits my bank account, it's gone. Most often it's spent on dumb things that I really don't even need (like clothes), although I do a really good job of convincing myself that it's something that I need. This year I'm going to track everything that I buy except for groceries, which my folks ever so kindly reimburse me for. My hope is that by having a visual record of everything I've purchased, I'll slow the spending and maybe come out of 2013 with some savings.
Why is it that ALL cosmetics run out at exactly the same time? I can't be the only one that this happens to. Without fail, as soon as I've finished a bottle of one thing, the rest of my skin care products with follow, as well as hair products, and sometimes even my cosmetics. Without fail. I don't get it. January was no different. I used to use all Lush skincare products, but I chose to phase it out as of the new year. While I love their products, I decided to change solely due to inaccessibility to the mall at which the store is...Train construction = hour long travel = can't be bothered. For the time being, I'm using Aveda products. They smell delicious and have been good to me so far. I am particularly fond of the Balancing Infusion treatment. I also stocked up on hair products. Aveda's Volumizing Tonic is a godsend. My stylist used ASP Kitoko Oil on my hair the last time I was there, and I ended up having to go back to purchase it. Kitoko Oil is "a blend of Karite and Argan Oils, Vitamins A and E and a natural UV filter." Basically, it makes my hair super soft, super shiny, and smells quite similar to Aveda products. I finally saved up enough empty containers from both Lush and MAC to trade them in for some goodies. An Oatifix mask from Lush (my fav) and Shadowy Lady eyeshadow from MAC, which I've been using as a liner for special occasions.
As far as specialty food items go (by parents don't pay for these), I bought one bag of Phil & Sebastian coffee (and a second that I got from FINALLY redeeming my free bag) and a container of this tea. The tea contains chamomile and valerian among other things. I was taking Valerian supplements for a little while to help me sleep, but have since switched to this tea instead. I think it has a placebo effect on me. I was on the hunt for bitters a couple weeks ago, and ended up making the trek to Inglewood sans vehicle. It takes FOREVER, so I don't often make the effort. I figured since I was already at the Silk Road Spice Merchant I should just stock up on items that I was nearly out of.
Some really fun things that I purchased this month are my Herschel backpack, LL Bean boots (although it seems we are nearing the end of winter...) and a CRAFT coffee subscription. The backpack and boots are arguably the most practical items that I've purchased in a while, but the coffee is all about the fun.
Not so bad for the first month! I even managed to put a little money away (and keep it untouched). I spent a boatload of cash on skin products, which thankfully means that I won't have to for another couple months.

I run out of all my cosmetics at the same time too! So frustrating. Right now I need blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, eye liner and I'm getting low on mascara. Ahhh. Oh, and concealer. haha.
